Psalm 41:2-3
Verse 1 spoke of a “He” and “Him.” These two verses continue to speak of this singular person and add depth and detail. He will be protected and kept alive. He shall be called blessed. He requests deliverance from the desires of His enemies. He asks for sustenance and restoration from life-threatening illness.
Once again, who is this person? David? Certainly so. David wrote these words. Us, the people? Yes too. Many of us have already experienced some of these blessings in part. Jesus Christ? Absolutely. Prayers of protection during His day of trouble saturate the Psalms. Concerning Him being called blessed, see Matt 23:39. Do our enemies have a desire over us nothing-burgers? Hardly. Their true desire is to subvert and harm the Son and, in lieu of touching Him, harm His Church. What is the Messiah’s sickbed and illness? Well, it is the very cause of His day of trouble. It is our sins that cause His weakness. The only acceptable medicine and cure of His illness involved blood from He who requires blood (Ps 9:12).
